Sinai "hosted" the biblical scene of the giving of the Law to Moses, the exodus and the flying of the holy family and is the home of the oldest active Monastery of Christianity, St Catherine. The last few years Sinai's charm is expanded on more earthy distractions: Sharm el Sheikh, Egypts' premier resort at the southern end of the peninsula, attracts millions of holidaymakers from all over the world.   Sinai, Transfiguration Mosaic Restoring Among the priceless treasures of Sinai's St Catherine monastery, the oldest one of Christianity, the mosaic of the Transfiguration is broadly considered the most important one. This masterpiece of early Byzantine art (6th century) currently faces the threat of collapse! We followed the procedure of this restoration, one of the major projects in progress of its kind.
